October 26th, 2018 – a debate on “WOMEN IN THE FILM INDUSTRY”

On October, 26th, 2018 a debate on “WOMEN IN THE FILM INDUSTRY took place, an event accompanying the festival “ALL ABOUT FREEDOM FESTIVAL”.

How has the position of women in cinema in Canada evolved ? Do women in the Polish and Canadian film industry have a chance for a 50/50 professional parity in 2020? Is cinema a woman? These questions will be answered by the following members of the panel:

Participants included Tom McSorley, Director of the Canadian Film Institute; Ingrid
Veninger, a Canadian film director; Olga Chajdas, film director of the NINA film and actress Maria Mamona (known for her main role in the movie ZAĆMA by Ryszard.Bugajski). The moderator of the discussion was Tomasz Żółtowski, a journalist, an outstanding expert on cinema from Gdańsk. The debate was opened by Jeremy Wallace, Chargé d’Affaires of the Canadian Embassy.

After the debate a screening of the film “Porcupine Lake” by Ingrid Veninger took place It is a story about the courage and secret life of girls during a hot and foggy summer in northern Ontario, when childhood disappears quickly, and adulthood has not yet arrived.

The event was organized by the Foundation Education.Culture.Art, in cooperation withthe Association for Film Education and the European Solidarity Center, and under the patronage in Warsaw.of the Canadian Embassy in Warsaw.
